Is the web compressor really free? What's the catch?
Yes, genuinely free with no account required, for single files up to 100MB. It runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — we don't see or store your video. There's no daily limit on how many files you compress.
How do I receive my license key?
After PayPal payment completes, SoftSell emails your license key to the address used at checkout. You can also find it under My Account → Licenses after logging in.
Does my video ever get uploaded to a server?
No. The web tool processes files locally in your browser tab. The desktop app processes files locally on your computer using a bundled FFmpeg engine. In both cases, your video never leaves your device.
How do I activate the desktop app?
Open the app → License / Activation → paste your license key → Activate. Keep an internet connection available for the first activation check.
What happens if my file is over 100MB?
The web tool shows a prompt to use the $29 desktop app instead, which has no file size limit and also supports compressing many files at once (batch mode).
I paid but did not get a key. What should I do?
Check spam/junk first. If nothing arrives within 15 minutes, email support@soft-sell.com with your PayPal transaction ID and order email.
How do I activate the desktop app after buying?
You'll receive a license key by email after checkout. Open the app, go to License / Activation, paste the key, and activate. Your license covers 2 devices.
Can I use one license on multiple computers?
Each plan has a device limit shown on the pricing page. If you reach the limit, deactivate an old device from My Account or contact support.
Will compression hurt my video's quality?
Quality presets are tuned to balance file size and visual quality for typical sharing use cases. If you need a specific size, target-size mode calculates the bitrate needed to hit it while keeping quality as high as possible.
